I watched this interview because the title led me to believe that Duffy would explain why he seems to separate evangelism and discipleship. They are two parts of the same thing. Like two halves of the brain. They work in concert one with the other and they are mutually entwined one with the other. The statement on page 18 of Building A Youth Ministry That Builds Disciples that says: “Those who pit “discipleship” against “evangelism” seem to have forgotten that evangelism is the first stage in the process of discipleship. No one has ever been Discipled who was not first evangelized.” Is just simply wrong. Jesus Discipled pre-Believers all the time and so should we. Any youth pastor who says he has never Discipled a pre-Christian does not have much of a ministry. Why this need to surgically separate evangelism from discipleship?
