Talking About Sin with Teenagers
“What is sin and how do I know when I’m doing it?” This is not an unusual question to be asked by a young person. But too often what we’ve said in response has been confusing or unhelpful, tending to push kids into shame and guilt (or to avoid these feelings, disengagement). In this seminar we’ll look at sin, explore what it is theologically, and how it functions in our lives. We’ll then discuss how to speak about sin with young people, and how this theological understanding can make a difference for your youth talks or children’s sermons.
Andrew Root
Andrew Root is in the Olson Baalson chair as associate professor of youth and family ministry at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He is the author of several books, including the new Theology in Youth Ministry series, The Theological Turn in Youth Ministry (with Kenda Creasy Dean), The Promise of Despair, Children of Divorce, Revisiting Relational Youth Ministry, and Relationships Unfiltered.
