by Doug Weiss on 07/08/2010 I love the 36 Parables series. They have done a great job in capturing the essence of the Bible passage and creating a dynamic narrative film that captures your attention and draws you into each story.
by Jim Weller on 03/30/2010 Be careful! These are not cheap filler for a bored youth group. Each parable is well-thought-out and retold in a totally fresh way. Yet, the meaning of each one is carefully maintained. Use one parable at a time and let the kids drink it in, think it out, and grow in wisdom. Each parable is a gem and deserves its own setting. To watch them straight through would be like pouring diamonds in a bowl and munching them down without thought. "Found" was the first parable I saw and it brought the meaning of the Lost Coin home to me on a visceral level with a power I had never gotten from reading the original parable. I'm too far removed from that social context. If Jesus were walking our streets today, I'm sure He would use contemporary settings like this. I've used these parables with children from kindergarten through eighth grade, and they all "get it"; some with their heads, all with their hearts. I have also used these with adult discussion groups. The set is a good investment.
by shibu mathew on 03/30/2010 I've loved using the 36 Parables for both large groups and smaller clusters. I've been a middle school pastor for 6 years, and have used the films a great deal. Kids are always prompted to ask questions about the film and the parable behind it. The study guides are written with older and younger youth in mind. Thanks for a great product that stimulates conversations about the Gospels!
by James White on 03/22/2010 I've been a HUGE fan of 36 Parables since "the beginning." My first glimpse of a parable of theirs was "Found" (Yellow)... and I was instantly hooked! As they've added content, I have not been disappointed. They are not your "average Christian media production." Not by a longshot! It's stuff I'd actually want my non-Christian friends to watch, and not feel embarrassed! I was a theatre major in college, and the production quality of 36 Parables is top notch. Plus, they never fail to generate significant dialogue & discussion whenever I show it to groups (with youth group, adult study or for Sunday morning worship). Some of my personal favorites (in addition to "Found") include: "Buried Talent," "Sean," "The Car Lot," "Beyond Beautiful," "The Music Box," and "Like Father, Like Son." If you're debating whether or not to give this series a try, go ahead & do it! You won't be sorry.
by Kathy Hirleman on 03/22/2010 As a middle school principal at a Christian school, I'm always looking for relevant ways to engage kids with the Gospel message. 36 Parables is a fantastic tool to do just that. We've used four or five of the parables in our
Bible classes and in chapel and the kids love them. The thoughtful discussion questions cause the kids to go deeper and interact with the passage of scripture on a personal level.
by Beth Galbreath on 03/20/2010 The 36 parables videos are wonderful. Some are touching, some are funny; some feature older folks, some younger, some youth; but all make the viewers think. Like the parables themselves on which they're based, they usually have no cut and dried "moral." Once you try a few you'll want more, so this bundle is a great way to buy them - I own them all. I use them with kids, with adults, and in sermons.
by Larry Darnell on 03/20/2010 I use many of these in my middle school work. I have been working with youth for over 20 years. As with any video resource, you watch it, tailor the discussion questions to your group, and go from there. I built a whole year's worth of material using these and the actual parables out of the Bible. Very well done.
At about $4.25 per video with free discussion guides, it is the best value around and it is a great resource.
I believe these can speak to both youth and adults.
by on 03/13/2010 I am a big fan of the 36 Parable Series! The films really help me understand what Jesus meant when he shared stories in the Bible for us to live by. We have had great discussions because of films and can't wait for the rest of the series to become available. We also think the acting is great! It's like watching a short movie.
